VAC Commendation Medal
VAC Commendation Medal
by Kevin O'Keefe
As many of you are aware the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation was created some years ago to recognize individuals across the country for their contributions to the veteran community or to the remembrance of veterans. The preamble to the commendation states...'Since serving in uniform, many of Canada’s Veterans continue to provide outstanding service to their country, their communities and their fellow Veterans. To formally recognize the contributions of these outstanding Canadians, the Governor General authorized the creation of the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation.
The Commendation is awarded annually to individuals who have contributed in an exemplary manner to the care and well-being of Veterans or to the remembrance of the contributions, sacrifices and achievements of Veterans. The Commendation is intended primarily for Veterans, but may be awarded to non-Veterans.'
If there is anyone in our association who you feel should be commended in this way, you may wish to send in a nomination. Members of our community who have already received the commendation include Maj (retd) Bill Beswetherick (2010), MWO (retd) Terry Murphy (2010), and Col (retd) Peter Sutton (2015).
Attached is a copy of the application form with further details. You may nominate an individual for the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation using the nomination form. Forms are also available at all VAC district and regional offices. This form is also available at all Veterans Affairs Canada district and regional offices and on-line at
http://www.vac-acc.gc.ca
. Further information on the commendation can be found on the Veteran Affairs Canada Commendation website.
